Welcome
to the Strathmore University Attachment System!
At Strathmore, we strive to enhance our students' professional development through impactful industrial attachments, such as Service-Based Learning and Work-Based Learning.
Join us on this collaborative journey where education meets experience, and aspirations become reality.
"Attachments offer invaluable opportunities for experiential learning, personal growth, and professional development, shaping individuals into capable professionals ready to make meaningful contributions to society."
Service-based learning integrates meaningful community service
with academic learning, creating a reciprocal relationship between students and the community.
At the societal level, active participation and awareness of community needs are
essential for individuals to support one another and become more socially responsible citizens.
Collaborating with community members allows students to improve their teamwork,
organizational, and communication abilities.
Additionally, they acquire valuable experience by engaging with the diverse members of
their communities.
Overall the Service-based learning attachment is crucial as it not only enriches academic
understanding but also fosters empathy, civic engagement, and practical skills through direct
community involvement.
Work-Based Learning is an educational strategy that allows
students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world work environments.
Through internships, co-op programs, apprenticeships, and other work experiences, students gain
valuable insights into their chosen field, develop essential skills, and build professional
networks.
Students benefit from the guidance of experienced faculty members and industry mentors
who are dedicated to supporting their professional growth and development.
In addition to technical skills, students also develop crucial professional skills such
as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, essential for career success.
By combining academic learning with practical work experiences, WBL ensures that students
are not only well-educated but also well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities they will
encounter in their chosen careers.
Our Work-Based Learning program has a track record of success, with many students
securing employment opportunities and internships at leading companies in their respective
industries.
Attachments are monitored and evaluated through a joint effort by university supervisors and host supervisors. University supervisors conduct site visits, interacting with students and host supervisors. Both parties assess the student's performance using our platform, ensuring comprehensive evaluation and fostering continuous improvement.
Host organization supervisors oversee students during their attachment, providing mentorship, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance. They play a crucial role in facilitating a meaningful learning experience for students.
The compensation structure for attachments can vary depending on the policies of the host organization and the nature of the attachment program. Some attachments may be unpaid, while others offer stipends, salaries, or other forms of compensation.
The duration of attachments varies based on the type. Work-Based Learning (WBL) attachments typically last for 325 hours, while Service-Based Learning (SBL) attachments usually span 220 hours. These durations are structured to ensure students gain comprehensive learning experiences tailored to the specific requirements of each attachment type.
Note: WBL hours may vary depending on your faculty.
